When I was expecting, it was so exciting getting gifts for our baby; all the mini clothes, tiny socks, precious blankets. We felt really lucky to receive nice gifts from friends and family. I remember at my baby shower one of my close friends gifting me two bags. One for the baby, and the other with a relaxing spa kit for me. On another occasion, she gifted me a postpartum care set that definitely came in handy after I gave birth.
Both of these times, I never expected anything. I was more than happy getting all the gifts for the baby. I never expected anything for myself. But, I remember thinking how thoughtful it was that people would think of me and really appreciated the sweet gestures.
I realized how much small gestures meant, especially during all of the new transitions and challenges that come along with having a baby. It is nice to know that someone is thinking of you whether it be through words, actions, or gifts.
Even after I gave birth, my fiancé took me to get new clothes so that I could feel better in my postpartum body and treat myself.
It’s not about the material aspect of it, but more about the thought behind it.
So, I thought I would put together some gift recommendations that could be great for moms, or any special person in your life to show that you were thinking of them. And honestly, flowers, a card, or just telling someone you appreciate them is always really nice too.
- Postpartum care gift basket
They sell some great pre-made postpartum gift sets that are perfect if you don’t know exactly what to get and just want to get everything at once. I received the Fridamom gift set and I used up almost everything in it. If you wanted to make your own, some things you could include are:
-Disposable underwear
-Maxipads
–Cooling pads (If you’re going to get anything from this list, I highly recommend these. Your recipient will thank you)
-Perineal spray (This one from earth mama is natural!)
2. Self-care items / basket
Similar to a post-partum care basket, you can include things that may come in handy at the hospital or after birth. Some things like:
-Hair ties
-Chap stick / Lip balm
-Travel size toiletries (Things like lotion, shampoo, soap, mini brush… you can also get a set like this where they can just put in their own essentials from home)
-Hair towel
-Robe
-Moisturizer / Lotion / Facial spray
–Non-slip socks (My hospital didn’t let me walk in regular socks so make sure they are non-slip!
-Journal (I am including this one in self-care because journaling can definitely help your mental health)
3.Breastfeeding Care basket
If you know that the recipient is planning on trying to breastfeed, a breastfeeding care basket is a really thoughtful gift. After I gave birth, I can honestly say that breastfeeding was one of the hardest parts of having a new baby and I had never really talked a lot about it with other people prior to giving birth.
I also didn’t know that there were so many things out there that could be helpful when trying to breastfeed. Some things that could be great to include in this basket or to get on it’s own could be:
-Nipple Butter (The Earth Mama one is my favorite!)
-Extra pumping supplies
-Lactation snacks or drinks ( I loved these cookies and they helped me up my milk supply!)
4. Keepsake / Photo gift
One thing I love is capturing moments with my family. Throughout my pregnancy up until this day we’ve been taking family pictures on disposable cameras and our polaroid. We received some polaroid film from a cousin and it was super thoughtful! Some things you could buy are:
-Polaroid Film
-Polaroid
-Photo Album (You can put a pregnancy, ultrasound, or family picture in it!)
-Photo Frame
-Milestone Journal
5. Coffee/ Tea basket
The first month of our baby being born consisited of a lot of coffee and tea to help get through the early days and late nights. This gift is not only great for new parents but any drink lover. Things you can get may include:
-Mugs
-Travel Coffee mugs
-Tea or Coffee Assortment
-Flavored syrups
-Honey
-Cookies or crackers that pair well with coffee or tea
6. Date night basket
During pregnancy and once you’ve got all settled in after your baby comes, it’s important to have quality alone time with your partner. Even small things like eating a meal together can make all the difference.
Making a date night basket can be a really cute gift for new parents. Some things you can add in could be:
-Snacks
-Their favorite movies
-Wine (for after the baby comes) / non-alcoholic beverages
-Candles
-Bath bombs / shower steamers
-Cozy socks
-Gift cards to go eat
I am probably missing a lot of great ideas so please feel free to add some recommendations in the comments!
If you try out any of these gifts, let me know if they loved it!
